Self-generated earnings statement — figures entered by the user, not payroll-verified.

Use this tool honestly. A pay stub is a record of real earnings. Creating a false or inflated pay stub to obtain a loan, rent a home, or deceive an employer or government agency is fraud and is a crime. Only enter true and accurate information. This tool is provided for lawful record-keeping and is not financial, tax, or payroll advice — see our Terms of Use.

Create a pay stub for your records

This free pay stub generator produces a clean earnings statement for legitimate record-keeping — for employers documenting what they paid an employee or contractor, for self-employed people recording their own income, or to recreate a stub you’ve lost. Fill in the details, watch the live preview, and download a PDF. Everything happens in your browser, so wages and personal details are never uploaded.

What it includes

  • Employer and employee details
  • Earnings — regular, overtime, bonus, or a flat salaried amount
  • Automatic Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%) on gross pay
  • Income-tax fields you fill in — federal and state withholding
  • Other deductions — 401(k), health insurance, and more
  • Current and year-to-date columns
  • A clear net pay total

Why we calculate some taxes but not others

Social Security and Medicare (together, FICA) are fixed percentages, so we calculate them for you. Federal and state income-tax withholding is not fixed — it depends on your W-4, filing status, and allowances — so you enter those amounts yourself. We don’t guess at your income tax, because the right figure is specific to you, and a wrong estimate could mislead you.

How to use it

  1. Enter the employer and employee details.
  2. Set the pay period, pay date, and frequency.
  3. Add earnings lines (leave Hours blank for a flat salary amount).
  4. Enter your federal and state income-tax withholding; FICA fills in automatically.
  5. Add any other deductions.
  6. Confirm the accuracy checkbox, then click Download PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this pay stub generator for?

It's for lawful record-keeping: small-business owners and employers who need to give employees or contractors a pay stub, self-employed people documenting their own income for their records, and anyone recreating a stub they've lost. It is not for misrepresenting income to anyone.

Is it legal to make my own pay stub?

Creating a pay stub for legitimate record-keeping — for example, an employer generating one for an employee, or a self-employed person documenting real income — is legal. What is illegal is creating a false or inflated pay stub to deceive a lender, landlord, employer, or government agency. That is fraud and can carry serious criminal penalties. Only enter true, accurate figures.

How are the taxes calculated?

Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%) are fixed rates and are calculated automatically from gross pay. Federal and state income-tax withholding depend on your W-4 and situation, so you enter those amounts yourself — we deliberately don't estimate them, because the correct figure is specific to each person.

Is my information uploaded or stored?

No. The pay stub is built entirely inside your web browser and the PDF is generated on your device. The names, wages, and any SSN digits you enter are never uploaded to or stored on our servers.

Is this an official or verified document?

No. It is a self-generated earnings statement based on the figures you enter. It is not payroll-verified and is not issued by a payroll provider. The PDF states this. For official payroll, tax filing, or verified income, use a licensed payroll service or accountant.

Does it show year-to-date (YTD) totals?

Yes — it estimates year-to-date figures by multiplying the current period by the pay-period number you set. If your pay varies between periods, treat the YTD figures as an estimate.
